Day of the Dead

As you know it will be The Day of the Dead on the 1st and 2nd of November.
This year we are lucky enough to have amazing hand made candles to have on our ofrenda inspired by the Bi-Centenario celebrations and exhibitions i saw a month ago in Mexico City.
Its a time to remember the dead and Party with them. In my experience of the Day of the Dead in Mexico it is a jubilant occasion with everyone honoring the relatives at the cemetery with food, tequila and musicians, laughing and dancing are normal, what a beautiful way to remember your loved ones!

Vintage Mexico

The boxes are unpacked and the shop is full to the brim of new stock.
Here is a peek at just one of my recent arrivals from Mexico.
It's an amazing one-off, vintage lime green rug and it's absolutely stunning.
Stay tuned... I'll be showcasing some more of my incredible finds over the next week or so.

It's here!

It's arrived! All my long awaited boxes of treasures from my trip just over a month ago.
I have so many treats to show you. I can't wait to post some photos of all the gorgeous things... but for now you'll have to wait just a little bit longer. I am still busily unpacking - carpets and throws, frocks and cushions... it's exhausting and exhilarating at the same time!

Thank you to the lovely Shannon Fricke who recently gave away one of Las Ninas' beautiful oil cloths through her blog.

What a week!

It's been an incredibly eventful week for Las Ninas. The poor old shop was a little worse for wear post shoot. Everything was just bundled together at the end of the day and there were bags and boxes and clothes and cushions everywhere. It's taken quite a few days of reordering but we're almost there. Shelves are now restacked, rugs and fabrics, rehung.

And then tomorrow... the new shipment arrives. Stay tuned - I have many treats instore for you...

Las Ninas Beauties

What a day it's been! After laying awake much of the night listening to the thundering rain, we set off up into the hills, dodging fallen trees and avoiding flooded causeways. Our destination was a beautiful old Queenslander in the rainforest and there, a possie of us gathered - 2 photographers, 3 stylists and 3 gorgeous models - to shoot the wonderfully embroidered Mexican dresses and skirts and rugs and cushions that fill Las Ninas Textiles in Byron.

We had such a fabulous day amongst the bougainvillea. The rain stayed away and the sun even appeared which was a treat after the stormy night.

Stay tuned for the professional shots, but here's a little glimpse of the day that was.

En Mexico

Despite the cyclonic conditions and subsequent deluge, today I sat and chatted in the courtyard of this beautiful Mexican woman as she sewed and embroidered blouses for the forthcoming Fiesta. The village children ran amongst us, happily eating the chocolate biscuits I handed out, excited about the festivities ahead. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a few garments which will soon arrive at Las Ninas. Be sure to call in to see them!

Beautiful Embroidery

I never tire of these stunning embroidered pieces.
I feel very fortunate to have such a supply of these beautiful pieces in my store.

This piece is part of a 2.5m table runner. It is hand woven then machine embroidered.
Have you ever seen a more joyful fabric?
